Lowering the Barriers to Electrification for OEMs
For many OEMs in mobility and industrial equipment, the fundamental challenge of electrification lies in their in-house capability to deliver it.
Developing an EV powertrain requires deep expertise across electric motors, power electronics, battery systems, control software, thermal management and high-voltage safety. Bringing these technologies together into a reliable, production-ready system takes significant time, investment and specialist engineering capability.
For OEMs without established electrification teams, this can create a substantial barrier. Building the knowledge-base alone can take years, while validation, certification and production readiness add further complexity. At the same time, regulatory pressures and market demand mean electrification programmes often need to move faster than traditional development cycles allow.
This is why modular, off-the-shelf EV powertrain solutions are becoming increasingly important. By integrating proven components or complete electric drivetrains such as motors, inverters, battery systems and control electronics, OEMs can significantly reduce development risk and shorten time to market. Rather than starting from a blank sheet, manufacturers can focus on vehicle integration, performance characteristics and the aspects that truly differentiate their product.
This approach is proving particularly valuable in sectors where engineering complexity is high but production volumes are lower, including buses, commercial vehicles, specialist automotive and off-highway applications.
Electrification is reshaping how vehicles are engineered and delivered, and for many OEMs, the ability to integrate proven EV powertrain technology and collaborate with specialist partners will be a key enabler in bringing new electric platforms to market efficiently.
